The loonie gave up after 12 hours. No gun found so far. I believe CERT went in after him as some point. Burned wood in a hazard area. They took him to the hospital, then he will be going to the jail house. Multiple other warrants on him.

After wanting to visit the No. 9 Lehigh mine and museum and meet Jack for many many years, I finally got there today. My wife, Linda and I got up there late morning and found Jack in his Old Lehigh hat. Jack is a terrific guy as we all know and is the professor of all things Panther valley Anthracite mining. He gave us a guided tour of the fine museum there and other things around the grounds. The Mrs. and I later did the mine tour which was terrific. They had doubled up on the tours to handle the crowds. Great food there as well. First time I had homemade pierogies in years, swimming in butter and onions as they should be. Nice classic car show going on as well and a live singer.
Thanks very much Jack. Great to finally meet you. Wish a few more of you could have made it.
First thing the tour guide discussed was the recent visitor that was arrested the other day. Turns out, he had been living in there for a while. The mine has 4 levels. Bottom two have been flooded since Agnes in '72. Level 2 is where this guy was camped out which has a good bit of mud in it. They had even had a group tour of school kids through it not knowing the guy was on level 2. The level one you go on in the tour was mined from 1857 to maybe early 1900's. Solid rock tunnels, no shoring needed except where the 2 veins intersected. Primrose vein, then Diamond vein. Jack, if any of this needs to corrected, let us know.
Going to try to attach a few photos I snapped. Sorry for the lousy quality of some of the photos.
The man himself.

Drum screen for small sizes. Looked to range from Barley at one end, then Rice, Buck and Pea. Guessing this from a small processer?

Mazaika bros processing sign. North of Tamaqua on 309. Maybe 5 miles? Make left in Ginther at the light where Skipper Dippers Ice cream is on left. Yes we had some. Down road on right a short distance.
