A black resident in California who has lived in the state their whole life until the age of 71 could receive more than $1.2million in compensation, if the recommendations are forged into law.
But residents who attended the official meeting in Oakland hit out at the estimated costs of reparations, which some believe it is 'nowhere near enough,' demanding $200million direct cash payments to individuals instead.

Payed by whom? The English who manned the ships or the African tribes who turned them over? If I were black I'd be so sick and tired of hearing about this, and I think many of them are. It's truly a testimony to how many people can stir up the "justice" desire within other people and then steer it right off a cliff....

Cali was a "free state" but did not outlaw slavery. It was one of the concessions to the slave states for allowing it to become a state in 1850.

They're broke now, where's the money coming from? That's just an approval from the "Reperations Committee" and has to get past the legislature. Knowing California it probably will.

The idea that they are even considering it shows how out of touch with reality they are.coaledsweat wrote: ↑Mon. May. 08, 2023 6:51 amThey're broke now, where's the money coming from? I'm going to say.... not going to happen. The reason for that is there is going to be a whole bunch of poor <insert other race here> Democrats that will not be happy. They would alienate a lot of people that typically support their policies.

It will most certainly happen, I think. Question will be the $$$.
Never underestimate the brain damage Calf. has.
Another question will be if it survives a court challenge .. they will have to make a "special tax" to cover the costs..likely spread out over time.

With California $18 billion in the red,.... and having over 2 million blacks,... where's the money coming from ? And giving a million dollars to each black, do the math. They don't have enough people in that state to raise that much tax. And they have been losing tax payers for a few years. This would only increase the exodus.davidmcbeth3 wrote: ↑Mon. They'll issue out bonds to cover the cost. 20 or 50 yr bonds. Its not settled yet, its just recommendation by a panel And that panel did not say 1 mil for each black resident...its like 1 mil for a 20 yr resident and then less money with less years.Sunny Boy wrote: ↑Mon. Its all goofy for sure. They will come to some $$$ for black residents. 100% sure of that.
They don't care about taxing people out of the state.
If the north part wants to leave Calf & form another state, like they have indicated they want to before then they better do it faster rather than slower.

They'll just print the money, just like our Fed does.
Stupid is as stupid does, to quote Forrest Gump, someone 6x smarter than any government official in that state, MA, or in D.C. !

Think even deeper, what would happen after possibly 100K people got a full million dollars. Any of them even close to retirement age retire and drop out of the job market so even less taxes are raised by the state and employers have even less workers. Some of those employers would have to close because of it and the others would have to raise their wages.
Perhaps their new wealth would cause a spur to the economy with a buying spree that could recover some of the cost but who knows.
I use 100K getting the million as an example as people who get paid have to prove lineage to slaves to some extent... and live there a long time, purely speculative. And it will cause fraud of course.
And just throwing it out there, there are plenty of white, yellow, red people out there who can prove slave lineage also, not just black people. It may sound like just a black issue but it covers many others. Lots of generations involved.
A quick example, when you get back to your Great Great Great Grandparents you have 32 Grandparents that could have been slaves. Go back one more generation and there are 64 possibilities. People under 30 could easily go back another generation, 128 grandparents then.
Im sure there are holes in my ramblings, Im not calling them facts.
