I found this in my paper mining collection .Pre 1929 .The colliery called Kaska William near Tamaqua .Ten men were on the cage coming up after there shift .What was about to happen to the miners is Mine Boggling .Guys were thinking a Hot Shower The stop At The Gin mill For A Couple Beers .Up near the surface a foreman told two laborers To Move # Empty Mine Cars Near The Elevator Shaft .The Foreman Had the Idea To have The Loaders Go Down the Cage And start Loading Coal From The Chutes .Well The Two Empty Mine Cars Were Poorly Blocked At the Wheels .The Two empty cars Rolled Down The Cage Elevator Snapping The Steel Cable And Killing All Ten Miners .Approx 23 Kids Were left Without Fathers .

Thanx,Jack.. While this one's a "Tragic Cryin' Shame",it needed to be told. While some rules can become a repetitive, mindless pain in the ass, this story simply demonstrates how it can all go to Hell in an instant.. Damned Nightmare.. Keep Em' Coming Jack,Even These Rough Ones...

I had a freshly graduated chemist beginning work .. he asked if a chemical in a container was hazardous...I told him to figure it out.

He open up the vessel and took a nice big inhale of it. What a dum dum. It was acetic acid. Glacial. 7 years of college down the drain.

I'm sure we all have such anecdotes. I know I've done stuff where people say "How are you still alive?" LOL

Jack, thanks much for the mining history. So many deaths, especially back in the early 20th century.

I once found a death report on a distant relative in the mountain of Pa. reports. Died in a mining cart accident underground in 1910. Glen Burn mine, Shamokin. Age 72 and a Civil war veteran.
