I thought you guys might enjoy seeing my neighbor's maple syrup facility. The big boiler is wood or coal fired by hand. I believe the manufacturer to be Oil City. It weighs 6 tons empty and holds 500 gallons of water. It's rated for 325psi. He runs it around 100psi normally. Today it was around 57psi which produces 305 degree steam. The steam is pushed thru a heat transfer coil submerged in the evaporation tank which boils the sap. I'll try to add more history about the boiler later.
The sap tank is 700 gallons. Currently they transport the sap from collection tanks out in the sugar bush.
My neighbor Ryan is a steam junkie and also has a vintage steam tractor. He loves the steam whistles. He mounted a 3 chime buckeye up above the roof of the sugar shack that I can hear at my house quite clearly a mile away lol

Nice setup. That whistle reminds me of when the steam train used to run though here for the fall color tours. Loved to hear that sound coming up the valley.
We have a few sugar houses around here, but I've never seen the inside operation. Thanks for posting that.

Great pictures and video, I loved the steam whistle.
I know most of you guys are quite a distance away, but if you ever wanted to attend a maple festival there is one coming up in St. Albans, VT. https://www.vtmaplefestival.org/

Real impressive! That ain't no kiddie boiler!
I don't know of any sugaring operations near me, but someone is probably doing it. In the 60's, my dad and I used to stop off at remote farms in upstate Pa. Sullivan and Bradford counties. You could get a steel gallon can of MS pretty cheap back then. I don't think it was the AA fancy or whatever the sweetest grade is. Some of them may have had gallons of shine or sneaky pete as well.
