By this point of the year we are past mid winter. The days are lengthening and the historic temperature average is sloping upwards.
With the exception of a couple winter events it's been fairly mild here in western NY. Our average temperature for January was warmer by 7 degrees compared to historical average. I'd say that's pretty good!
It's been quite an open winter with snow. We currently only have a trace on the ground and any we have gotten has melted off within days. I realize that we aren't out of the woods yet, March can get ugly and the cold can stick around till the end of April. Heck, I remember one year just recently that it went from January to June in the last week of April
I'm trying not to count chickens but hopefull that our mild winter continues..
Hows it been for you guys?

It has definitely been warmer than average for us. I have burned about 1 ton less coal than time last year. We have gotten plenty of snow, but each time it warms up right afterwards and doesn't hang around. No sooner did they get the snowmobile trails groomed the weather warmed up and we lost the snow.
Skiing has been terrible, snowmobiling has been almost non-existent, and ice fishing has been limited to the bays. In short this winter has been bad for everything but the heating bill.

With the little storm tonight in VT, giving 12+ on the mountains, it sure isn’t going to help to much. But it’s going to make one fun drive south from the border.
I bet if you go talk to the owner of an automobile auto body shop, they won't be happy either. They depend on icy conditions for car wrecks.Rob R. wrote: ↑Wed. If you dealt in insurance you'd know that the majority of autobody places have been backed up since covid and supply shortages. This office is still seeing insurance work booked way out in advance because they got so far behind.

Warmer here too. Ive blown a little bit more snow than average. Wind about average. This storm will set records in part of my state for snow in one storm and will bump up the season total in my area.

Unfortunate situation for these people. We were a few minutes behind them and saw the aftermath just as EMS arrived. My kids learned a valuable lesson why being loud and distracting the driver is dangerous.

Outside of about a week or so of very cold weather it seem like eternal spring this year. Hardly any snow at all so far. Still have about 40 % of my winter supply of coal left.

I find my consumption ratio to outdoor temps is the worst around thirty degrees. Seems like the boiler can't get enough to keep him busy but just enough to keep him snacking. Anyone else finding the same?

Lee, you’re going to have to give me a refresher course on that.
