This story isn’t about coal or coal mining, rather, it’s a story about story telling…and it’s a story about a story teller. A man and his mission to keep the past alive.
This story is dedicated to our story teller, Jack. A man on a mission to keep those coal mining stories of the past alive today in our hearts and minds. Without the story teller the past dies…and gone are the stories and the wisdom of the elders that came before us.
Jack, we appreciate all the coal mining memories and stories you share with us. Keep telling them my friend.
Dedicated to our story teller: Jack

I knew that was the place in Sudbury!! Recognized it immediately! Thanks for sharing!! I haven't been there in over 40 years. The family used to take me there almost every single weekend. I loved it! I only recall seeing that water wheel turning one time in all those visits, and only that one time was I able to go inside and see all the gears close up. So glad to see it running and being productive now!
I have a fond memory of throwing up all over my grandfather's back there after eating a handful of peanuts he gave me! Still allergic to those damned things. Even early in my life I didn't like being told NO, so I held my hand out as he was eating them from a plastic bag. I remember staring at the shells, wondering WTF I was supposed to do with them. He cracked them open for me. OH! Now I see! I chowed several before my mouth and throat swelled up with warts from start to finish, and my gut started KILLING me. I still remember it all!! He forgot I was allergic, so I remember feeling shocked when he gave me them. Then I remember him carrying me over his shoulder as I wailed in pain (makes everything from my lips to a-hole go up in FLAMES) and puked all down his back!
Boy did that start some *censored*. I remember my mom SCREAMING at him for that one, calling him every name in the book. I learned some new words that day, too!
