Where in the world is the Mayor?

I'm taking a road trip and I'm dedicating this topic to Barney. Started on Saturday pretty late. Pictures suck but they are from crappy phone. I'll have better ones when there is something worth taking a picture of.

Day - 1

Total gas purchased: 17 gallons, a full tank
Miles for the day: 338
Total Miles: 338
Average Speed*: 73.4
Total States: 2 (including PA)

This is a scenic view from first day , if you look closely you might see Bob hiding in the bushes. * Average speed is true average speed. If the car is running and in park it's still being calculated. I'll be resetting this each morning.

Day - 2

Total gas purchased: 47.3
Miles for the day: 462
Total Miles: 800
Average Speed: 66.1
Total States: 4

Hard to see but that black monolith in the background ascending into the clouds is the Sears tower. FYI, cars were at dead stop when I took that picture. % lane road narrowed down to two up the road a little. There was also an accident in opposite side and they were narrowed down to 1 lane, there was miles of backup on that side.

Day - 3

Total gas purchased: 78.4
Miles for the day: 700
Total Miles: 1500
Average Speed: 78.5 (thank you American heartland)
Total States: 7

Early start today for day 4. Now the fun begins.

Apparently, I musta missed something??? What vehicle??? gas prices???

This sounds like a great measure of energy in vs energy out if I had to guess. Lol way to take a trip just for us mayor haha.

I'm in in my Buick LaCrosse, it has the 3800. It was a few hundred miles short 140K but it's the car I did all the work on a few years ago. I only put about 30K on it since then so it's pretty much a a car with suspension that only has 30K on it, the engine should only have about 75K if the junk yard I got it from is to be believed. The only thing questionable is the tranny, that was replaced by previous owner so it may have 50K on it or 300K.... Whatever the case the car is running fantastic. Took me the first day to get out that "What is that noise?" that is non existent.


Usually I get about 29 or so around PA in the highway but it's loaded down. I was getting around 24 in PA, almost 26 yesterday. Some of these hills in South Dakota was pushing it into the 3500 RPM's in third gear to maintain 90. Keep in mind the speed limit is 80, I passed a cop on the side of the road going 90 and kept on going. The MPG on this car isn't fantastic but it's like driving a lazy boy down the road.

Anyhow, off to the Crazy Horse memorial and Mt. Rushmore. As I understand it this Crazy Horse memorial is enormous, someone had mentioned to me that Mt's Rushmore could fit on his cheek.

Oh it's going to be a trip alright. If anyone wants to meet me in Vegas for lunch in week or so let me know.

The only thing I have to say is Wow!. I love cool roads and until today Rt.88 in Arizona was the coolest....this... blew it away. Update tomorrow.

Ooooh, thanks for the suggestion, that will take me a little out the way but it's kind of the general direction. I'm a short distance from Devil's Tower now ,Yellowstone later today from the south. I'll have to get some lodging tonight before that road near northern Yellowstone. There is just so much and I'm trying to balance quantity and quality. Anybody else has any suggestions let me know. Bear in mind I've already traveled a great deal of the Southwest.

In any event yesterday was first real day of this trip, only spent about 50 miles on the interstate at the end of the day. I skirted the Badlands to the South on my way to Mt. Rushmore. Amazing coincidence as I was approaching the parking lots. I have a bunch of CD's I burned that consist of random songs from my vast MP3 selection. This is what was playing as I was approaching the monument, if it had played for 20 more seconds it would of taken me right to the gate.

Still interested in gas prices in different areas of this here good old USA???

Dont walk on the snow in the mountains on those flat spots. Theres lakes under them. Lots of pulloffs on the Beartooth with the snow. I went super slow to save on my brakes and tranny, stopping a lot. Most scenic hiway in the USA so I was in no hurry anyway.

Get to Yellowstone early if you plan to camp there as the spots sell out quick. There are neighboring Parks that are almost as good. Unsure on the hotels but thats what the internet is for. Ive never been west of Yellowstone.
