Right now coal is about the same price as Nat Gas for my zipcode. Coming in at between $10 and $12 for 1 million BTUs . Oil is Close to $30 and Electric is over $50 Per 1 million BTUs. A large house not very well insulated can go thru that much in a single very cold winter day. Nat gas users are the lucky ones this year as the gas price only went up 10% from last year(so far). Back when I heated with just fuel oil,...... for a family of 6 in this 17 room monstrosity, uninsulated, with 55 tall windows, plus a set of floor to ceiling French doors spanning 10 feet. It used 20 gallons of fuel oil a day on the coldest days of our CNY winters.

I couldn't afford to make it through a week of that now.

This house was built for the local coal dealers. Life lesson learned - never buy a house built for people that were getting free heat.

I used about a tank a month for 3000sf which is only 8 gallons a day but still would cost me about $1100 a month at todays price. With coal i normally dont spend that much for the whole season now. This year i still dont have much coal yet
as i can get some for $300 Ton and some for less but i have to wait on the less ,getting nervous.

Should not come as a shock buying energy from your enemies is bad idea for so many reasons. But the US is just as bad buying critical medical supplies and weapons from china still.

Computer chips, medical supplies, meat, you make it and it’s shipped from China. We are worse!

My bill for that much is $175 . If i lived in Germany its $1000

I like the comment about what to do if your EV runs out of battery charge on the road. Reply was, call someone to bring you a 5 gallon bucket of wind turbine.

Had we followed Jimmy Carters advice and promoted renewable energy seriously 30 years ago, rather than falling for the boom bust cycle of the fossil fuel industry our whole world would be a better place. Wisdom is usually disregarded by those who cant see the forest for the trees.

A lot of people did but probably under estimated the length of time it take to transition. I for one have cut my coal use in half over 20 yrs and im just as warm.Thats progress.
