You say the kid should not have a gun, do you mean at school or altogether? I had a 22 rifle when i was 12 that my father bought for me but i didnt go out and kill people with it, that tell you a little something???????
Altogether it would seem. It is hard to sneak a long gun into a school however. I raised my kids in the wilds of Maine and I never ever considered giving them a handgun. And they were responsible A students.....National Honor society. Guns are earned and my time with them was always heavily scrutinized until I earned the nod to hunt on my own. I was 11 or 12 when I took the .410 and the beagle into the woods by myself.

I wouldnt have to "sneak a rifle" into school, just go out and start shooting on the streets
