Used to play about every weekend in my 20's. No where and no one to play now. When I was relaxed between that 3 and 6 beer range it was one ringer after another.
If you like shoes you might want to try Cornhole (bean bags). It's very similar rules to shoes and same mechanics if you are good at shoes you'll be good at cornhole. I'd rather shoes but it's a nice alternative. Best thing about that game is you can set it up almost anywhere and not worry about the lawn getting destroyed.

I love shoes, but it’s been quite a while. My grandpa used to pitch competitively locally. It sort of died around here. Corn hole has taken over it seems.
I still have my grandpa’s shoe set. I’d say they’re pretty old.

Same here. My grandfather loved playing horse shoes and usually hosted a match on Sunday afternoons. I still have his horse shoes out in the shop but have never gotten around to putting some pits in.

That’s my issue as well, haven’t put the pits in yet. I actually live in my grandparents home now and we have several good spots for pits and a creek full of blue clay for the pits, though I think red clay would be neat and stay soft). Pap always liked playing on clay pits rather than sand. He always said it separated the men from the boys because when the shoe hits, it sticks.
I’ve been putting off building them, but I need to get on the ball.
