Hey Bob,
Been involved with dogs and training working dogs for a long time. My grandpa used to run field trial beagles. Me, I’m a duck and upland bird dog man. Just a hobby trainer though.
A friend of mine, not long ago, shared something with me about losing a dog. I used to fight it, but the longer I ponder about it the more I realize how right he was. He said, “the best way to get over a losing a dog is to jump in with both feet and get another pup right away.”
I can tell you first hand that I fought against that advice for a long time. Since then I’ve put it to the test on no less than 3/4 occasions and I’m here to tell you that my mentoring friend was right.
I hate to see one go, but it’s part of the great circle of life, and so is getting another pup. Try it. It’ll make things a tad easier and your mind will be occupied with your new found friend.
