If it were a movie, he would have flown away and gotten hit by another bus! Glad that didnt happen. Next year maybe they will have babies for you to photograph! It was larger than it appeared in the 1st pictures.

Yeah.. he's a big bird! They deduced by his weight and size that he's a male.. Males are generally smaller than the females, believe it or not lol

A side note for birds... Knowing the sex of birds can be known by colors or other ways, but at the day old stage it was a very protected secret for many years. Im talking about turkeys but it likely covered most birds. I was told this at the turkey hatchery I worked at (so is possibly wrong but what the heck, I'll tell it anyway) We hatched 7 million turkeys a year, yes 7 million. The Japanese figured it out, how to tell the sex. They told nobody and were paid crazy wages to come here and do it. I never watched it close up so cant do it myself. They look up their vent at something. Probably the late 1970's a local lady just kept peeking every time she got near them and figured it out. They got rid of the high waged help and hired locals for a good wage but not crazy amount. Hatcheries didnt share much info so they likely all had to figure out how on their own.
I do know the ones that did it a long time usually damaged their thumbs. Theres a joke in there somewhere with that sentence but it was true. Anyways that is how hard it can be to know at least some birds sex and of all places you heard it on coalpail You should hear the sound of 50,000 poults in a room when your moving them around. Crazy sound. As we used to say there, have a flock of a day!
