Is there going to be a winter this winter?

Take away a single day of bad snow and I'm beginning to get the impression that this winter is overall going to be a non event.

It sure seems to be heading that way. Typically the last three weeks of January are the coldest part of the winter.

Last Monday I heard on the radio that on that day in 1981 it was -40, followed by two weeks of subzero weather. My dad said all but one water line in the barn froze and they had to move the cattle a few times per day so they could drink.

Around here, going by average temperatures, the last 2 weeks of January are the coldest part of the year.

For at least the last 3 years, we have had very cold weather in December. Then very mild in January and February. I think it's been in the 40's most days this month and headed to 50 later in the week.

So much for Winter!

I think a mild winter was already anticipated this year because of the ocean currents. Hard to say what might show up in February or March..

I just read that the polar vortex is expected to split which will hurl it south to the US. Supposed to hit around mlk day.

Im enjoying my non-winter. Fields are brown and I havent even blown snow yet. Ive pretty much been in a drought since July and hope it stays that way until spring.

And as usual, it is to cold down here.....hell, they got snow in Texas and every state south of us the other day. I DON'T want to see any snow.....thank you.

I used to get cold feet when growing up and thru the years in Maine. Now down here my hands can't take it. 36 degrees this morning for a few hours and my little fingers were killing me. That would be a balmy day in the past.
