50* and 6 dozen Oysters from the grants up in Wellfleet...
Smoker got fired up for test run with some chicken and a sirloin roast...
Burned the new paint off the 503 out on the deck...
503 has all the parts back in her and is going to get fired up next...

Been there.... at least to repair that exact leak. During new construction a sheet rock screw went through a 1/2" copper pipe. It was years....I'm thinking 10ish years..... before it started to leak. The customer couldn't figure out why the living room wall was suddenly getting wet.....and not drying out.ziggy87 wrote: The highlight of the day was a drywall screw through a copper heating pipe. The screw finally rusted out enough that it began to leak. What a day.

So the old 503 gets all fixed up with a paint job and nice rockwool insulation...
Paint is cured outside a well executed job...
Parts list made but not ordered from Hitzer...
Then thanks to Holdencoal...
What do I see but a 503 for free...
Just a short Sunday drive for me...
To a location not far from the sea...
Holy smokes this can not be...
She is almost like new, yippee!!!
I'll get a better look at her in the morning...
This one is a keeper...

WOW! Sounds like a nice score! I'd love a 503. Though my Chubby has been a good unit. Where it's installed in the fireplace do you have to run the blowers continuously?

I'll get some pictures in the morning...
Built in blowers were loading up with 'stuff'...
Want a remote blower setup to move the noise out of the living space...
Looking at a 6" inline EC variable speed fan...
Just saved a boatload in parts with the 'new' 503...
So I can justify the remote setup...
Just need to get 'The Boss Stamp of Approval"...
As I need to cut a pair of 5" holes in the floor for the remote blower setup...
But it will be quiet and help keep the basement warmer and drier...
Right now I have the blowers removed for the earlier paint job...
They need a very good cleaning and a full lube...
I may just swap the newer 503 into place for this season if it is the cream puff I hope it is...

Well lucky this was in his finished basement so it did not have far to go but it still sucks being finished.Freddy wrote: ↑Sun. Jan. 03, 2021 6:51 amBeen there.... at least to repair that exact leak.
