Welcome to Spring! The calendar says Winter is over.... and for once, the weather does too.
The coffee house remains open, of course it does! We have some nice Panama coffee and along with it breakfast sandwiches are being custom made. Your choice of over easy or scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, or sausage patty, and American or provolone cheese on English muffin or a bagel. How's that for service? Enjoy!
Not too much virus in this area.....and not too much toilet paper either. Look at this stuff! We thought we were lucky to buy it, but I'm not quite sure. 1000 sheets per roll, but it would take the delicate fingers of a brain surgeon to get 1,000 wipes per roll!
This virus thing might go on for months, but maybe with some luck we can social distance it into oblivion much sooner. I hope you are all well, and if anyone comes down with it that it is mild and quick. Take care, be helpful and neighborly. If the Feds give us cash & we don't NEED it.... Instead of dropping it into the bank account, how about we give to to someone that does need it? Family first of course, then friends & neighbors. I would hate to see someone lose the roof over their head because money wasn't placed where needed.
Stay safe & forward we go.

Good morning fellows. Not much going on here just laying low, hell I always do that. I’m thankful I’m still working and everyone around me is healthy. I’d like to bring some eggs to the coffee house been taking care of my neighbors while she’s away. 9 chickens laying like crazy. They are moving to Florida so the chickens will be here when they do. I enjoy the little lady’s. Everyone stay safe and healthy!

Good morning to all of my locked down cyber friends , No matter what Freddy the coffee is always the best!!
Not much going on this weekend just sitting here paying some bills while I still can, Work took a hit with all this cheap oil as the fracking equipment suppliers put a hold on orders so word has it that the layoffs are already in the works for some that work on that side of the business but the repair and large side of things we still are getting the work for now anyways.
The up side of this winter is I still have enough coal for next year( providing the winter isn't the worst in history ) if I can't get any for next season.
Ok friends take care of your self, stay warm, and like Freddy said "Forward we go" ( not sure where but we must go )

Good morning fellow coal boarders,
Nice to be able to come in, sit down and have a cup of the coal board's finest. I missed the last two Saturday morning rituals as I spent some time in guest services at our local hospital... apparently my appendix didn't want to be associated with my body anymore. Got in and out just in time to miss most of the corona mess. Well it's definitely good to be up and about to listen to the chit chat here, bit more sanity here than other places... enjoy the day!

Morning all!
Wow, that is an impressive breakfast spread there Freddy, Thank You!
Spring arived and it was 80 degrees here yesterday. Today we will be prepping the 6.0 V8 for paint. If the wind dies down, we will roll it outside and hose it down with a few cans of Chevy Orange.
Stay healthy everyone!

Mornin'
The coffee is great, thank you, Freddy. Spring is in the air-lilacs budding and daffodils popping up.
This virus thing..........most of us have been through worse. Try to stay positive, and, like Freddy suggests, give aid to those that need help. Together, we'll get through this crap.
Cheers

Coffee is great, still enjoying company from NC, and will for at least one more day...unless they shut down the highways...
Low rate of infection here, only 9 county wide.
I agree with the pay it forward sentiment Freddy, I am self employed and my savings are taking a hit due to this. It will make a truck payment or 2 for me....depends how long this goes on.
I suspect it is going to last longer then we are led to believe.....
Off to get siding for the last part of my screened in porch, just in time for warm weather to come in.....I hope.

Morning all
Well the world is upside down here in CNY. The governor has pretty much closed down the entire state. No cases in my county yet. Daughter works in Uganda for the CDC and they just decided to pull her out so she's scrambling to get a flight home. She will have to quarantine in Atlanta for 2wks when she arrives. The flight situation is crazy with flights being cancelled at the last minute but as of now she is booked. The irony is, that she is an infectious disease specialist. (lol). Anyway, the wife and I are on pins and needles until she arrives in the states. Hope your healing well Fred. Stay safe and healthy all.

As many of you know, this was my first week working for the US Dept of Labor as a Welding Instructor, but what a crazy first week of work! They had me sign papers for a few hours, then put right into training the kids. Both regular instructors were out for the day, there was one substitute teacher, and the welding class is 60 kids! It was chaotic! Normally a new hire gets a week of training! Not Nosmoke...right into the coal fire!
Then, they had a big meeting that first day (Monday) and said all the kids were going home, all 300 of them on campus. So I came in the next morning and we did a few things to make the class and shop better. We did that all week, but then yesterday they said we must work from home from now on. I figured they would just tell me to go home, but I guess they signed a contract, and they are going to honor it, mostly from fear of losing another teacher I guess. So it was one screwy week to start a new job.
But over all I think I will like it. The kids are good, and everyone seems pretty nice. Just a lot of paperwork and stuff to get used to because it is a Federal Facility.

What will help too is, this facility has a working arrangement with local shipyards, and obviously I know how to weld Destroyers and Subs, so I know where a lot of these kids are going. So, it is not just helping them learn to weld, but how to thrive inside these shipyards. We call it soft-skills, or "being employable". Teaching someone to weld is easy, but getting someone employable can be another matter, but completion of the welding program means having both skill-sets.
I have always had an issue with people complaining about "kids today", because that is all they do, complain, and no one figuring out how to work with them to make jobs in 2020 work; so it is nice to be a part of that solution instead of just complaining.
In my welding career I specialized in welding cast iron, and mirror welding, so I am looking forward to teaching that. I am fortunate that they other instructor is really excited to bring that kind of thing into class, just to get these students introduced to specialized welding.
