I've used it a few times but not for years. Not so sure it worked as advertised. I have a capped pipe access to septic tank line in the yard. Every now and then I'll drop a small piece of past it's prime lunch meat down the tube. I suppose anything would be past it's prime in short order. Seems to do it. I also limited use of bleach products and things like oxy clean to keep those hungry bacteria healthy.

Pump it every 5 years, it shouldn't need anything else.

Why do you say that?
I have used that stuff for over 30 years without any problems!
I just had my primary tank pumped 3 Months ago ( the last time it was pumped was 10 years ago, 3rd pumping Since 1989) I had about 6" of sludge in the bottom with nothing really floating in the water.
We are now required to get a pump and inspection every 5 years, I was told by the company to cut back to every other month using the Rid-x as I was adding it every month, My system is 45 years which in not to old and is oversize for the 3 of us with 2-1000gal tanks and 2-500' leach fields, still working very well and still will pass inspection!

Grumpy, Rid-ex is just bacteria in a box to help eat at the solids in the holding tank. If the bacteria in your tank is doing it’s job your just adding more bacteria.
The bacteria creates a scum layer at the top of the water and they live there. It’s important that when you have the septic tank pumped the pumper only punches a hole through this layer and doesn’t suck it up and it’s important they leave water in the tank too. You only want to suck up the solids sitting at the bottom.

H, outstanding post!!! K, I'm thinkin that rid-x stuff has a lot to do with acidity of water, soil, not sure I remember correctly but I know my septic has worked well for the 25 yrs. (using NOTHING) I been here on the hill. AGAIN--what ever works for ya--I personally don't believe in using something just because they got a cute commercial on the boob-tube--In fact, word of mouth works A lot better--FOR ME!!!

I have had problems with those dishwasher packs that go in automatic dishwashers. They do not fully dissolve and plug up the drain pipe to the dish washer.
Cleaning that sucked.
It was a 4 inch plug of white grease. Yuck.
The whole time I was cleaning it out I was thinking: Don't I have (4) daughters and a wife that can wash dishes by HAND?

Neighbor swear by it. I don’t use anything. No trouble for 20 years until last year. Only been pumped once in twenty years. Had to pump it last year. Pump guy said the tile probably collapsed.

My original system was a wooden box for tank which leached on it's own--this concrete one has been in for about 35 yrs--past owner had it pumped when I bought the old place. Remember, this old farm house was put up close to 200 yrs. ago--needless to say, it started with an outhouse!! LOL Since it started, KEEPING up with the Jonses has even hit Freetown!! LOL
More is not better, do some research, check out your local health dept. most will tell you not to use rid ex.Holdencoal wrote: ↑Sun.
