Correct my Brother, aside from a few not so local events it sadly seems like less & less remember this date & long gone is the unification & patriotism that the vast majority were showing for months afterwards.

16 years have gone by? It doesn't seem that long ago. For those that lost loves ones this day must still sting. Courage to all & forward we go.

The time does speed by...
Still remember that morning...
Like it was yesterday...
Doing IT in an elementary school...
Hooking the television up so the office staff could watch the news...
And decide what to do with the kids...
Getting links on the computer so they could sort things out...
The planes were out of Boston...
Otis is on The Cape...
Lots of connections to The Cape from Manhattan...
The local PD and FD have memorials to 9/11...

I think more people remember than we realize. Lots of local memorial services that are being hosted by churches, Veteran's organizations, schools, etc. that don't make the news reports.

Locally, there is a candle light service in a park here in the center of my town every year since 2002.

It probably made us feel the same as Pearl Harbor did to our parents and Grandparents. A terrible day in our history.

Don't forget 9/11, but keep it in perspective. During the Blitz more people died in London every single week than on 9/11. That doesn't count the other weeks and years of WWII. My MIL survived WWII working in the hospitals of London. The bomb with her name on it came when she was sick and couldn't go to work, so it got her friends and co-workers and spared her. The US is not so special as we like to feel -- but damned lucky in terms of civilian deaths -- so the commonplace is more traumatic.

I spent 9 months at Ground Zero and can honestly say, all I want to do is forget. It gets easier the further away from Sep 11th it gets, but in the weeks approaching, and the weeks afterwards it gets hard.

Last year our church did a big memorial to 9-11 and I had to leave the sanctuary for awhile. They apologized though there was no need to, and this year did not observe it, for me alone I am sure. I appreciated it, but wish my experience did not detract from others who were not there and could memorialize it.

I do not know what the answer is, but forget...never.

There are also many permanent memorials to those lost during 911.

Many of those who worked and died in the Twin Towers were from Long Island. Many towns on the Island have a memorial. There's one in a river-side park at the end of my Brother's street in his south shore town.

His Step son, a NYC Fireman, was off duty that day. By the time he got through the traffic jams and into the city, 10 members of his fire company were lost when the Towers came down.

There but for the grace of God, his name did not windup on that memorial only a few doors from his Mother's house.

I believe I started the political posts on 911 and owe you Fred and the others that posted an apology. This was not the place for that. Those were terrible days for our country and it's important to remember those who died that day. And days following.
