Good morning! The coffee is hot & waffles are full of fresh blueberries. Join us & enjoy a moment of friendship.

Yup, I was up north for over two weeks and had no Internet, no phone (limited texts), no TV.....and.....ya know what? It was wonderful! Time went so fast. Cribbage, puzzles, reading and just watching nature. Ahhhhh. Every day we saw bald eagles, loons, ducks, & heron. Some days we saw golden eagles, osprey & two days a big ol she-moose & her baby. And, oh yes, a chicken. Nights were cool, twice it got into the 30's, but only one day did it rain. Twice it rained all night & was clear by sunrise. That's easy to take!

Hope you are all looking at winter preparations. It won't be long before we are burning black rocks!

Hug your loved ones & forward we go.

Stoker Coal Boiler: Several EFM 520 refurbs...one 900, one 1300 mega-stoker

Hello Fred & Co.

Coffee has an extra warm feel in Loysburg this morning...50 degrees and rain. I am slowly getting myself backed off from another hammer-down week through the Alleghenies. Things went well without any breakdowns and I'm pleased to say that I am nearly 95% pain free from my operation this Summer. Coal delivery orders are coming in but my Dad and Brother will need to get this first wave out, I am not allowed to touch a shovel or a conveyor for a few more months.

Sure does feel to me like we are in for an early Fall. I have been working on the EFM as much as possible and by the time this weekend is over with the electrical controls should be finished and the piping 50-70 percent finished. I need to update my thread over in the boiler section too, I made a few changes.

I am getting in the mood to burn some coal.

Have a great days guys.

WOW, an eventful week. It is 36* this morning and this sensitive Hudson Valley lad is a little shocked for early September. We have horses coming up from Houston. My wifes best buddy is in St Thomas on her annual vacation. She has done this every year that I can remember. She is due to come back home Wednesday. There is some scrambling going on as that is when Irma is due to strike. She is trying to get out as is everybody else. It makes a strong case for scrabble in Maine.

I refuse to light up yet.

Chilly morning here in the Finger lakes and a nice sunrise over Lake Cayuga, spending the Labor Day weekend sightseeing, nice area but I'm sure it gets very busy around here.
Ok time to warm up by the fire so take care and enjoy your weekend :)

Nice to have you back Simon!!

Morning all, for a change I am actually posting on Sat. morning!
The boat in my garage would look nice on your dock Freddy, I finally started stripping it down to the mahogany and will strip the bottom as well. Will try for some pics.
Heading out to a gun shop today to sell an old Ruger I have had for many years and just don't use. Very desirable Blackhawk convertible .357/9mm, 1971 3 screw and no upgrade to the transfer bar. in the original box with the small boxes that the cylinders came in. Matching numbers on the cylinders...
Walked into the shop last weekend with it and everyone stopped what they were doing....the guy that got to discuss it with me was sweating bullets as we discussed it. Should be fun negotiating with him today!

Are you planning on painting the mahogany or another finish?

Hey K forget Freddys dock, here is the deal ... You spend 10,000 hours restoring that beautiful boat. Put Gibbs to shame. I do not approve of the mechanical sander, rub your fingers to the bone. Then you get bored with it and sell it to me for a song. Love that woodwork.

Good afternoon. It has been a busy week. Our 2016 Expedition showed up on Tuesday, it is everything the boys in Texas said it was. It left Houston the day before the Hurricane hit. The Ecoboost engine has really impressed me.

Today is a beauty of a day. I have a fresh keg of Labatt and ribs in the smoker.

Time for another glass...

All the upper Mahogany is staying visible, still working on what to put on it. Will seal the entire boat with CPES. Most likely will go with Sekkins Cetol light amber on the Mahogany, not sure if I will put a coat of Shellac on it first or not. Halfway down the boat on the interior, or below the seat line will be painted with regular house paint, as will the bottom of the boat, or exterior. The outside is Douglas fir lapstrakes molded to the hull. I have found that they "tacked" them on with brass staples. They are sticking thru the inside......
Retaining the cable steering system for now, and exploring engine options. That is a nightmare in itself. Also looking to have a custom made gas tank fabricated to fit under the rear seat and fill the rear area rather then have gas cans banging about.
The boat has seen some wear and was modified by some lobstermen back in the day to go fast....I just want to make seaworthy and look good, not going to shows with it. I know where there is a Chris Craft with a 283 chevy in it.......forgot to look into getting it while home last summer.....next year..

And newbie.....I worked in an autobody shop for couple of years and know all about sanding till your fingers hurt. This sander is the best thing I have ever laid my hands on.....some of their other tools are great also. But not generally better then other good tools. The whole difference is dust collection with all their tools. They are superb.

Sounds like you had a great trip Fred! Coffee is wonderful on this cool damp day in central PA. Kept busy this morning with a few plumbing issues to take care of for a friend. Now at work waiting for 11pm to go home. Get to move locomotives around the shop territory today and I get to drive. It's nice being in the warm dry cab. Have great week everyone and be safe.

Morning all,

Yup, I am late again. I tried to post yesterday before family arrived, however, as I was typing my family arrived so I did not get to post. It was a good day yesterday as we went hiking after an early lunch. Freddy, nice to see you back. The weather today is cool and rainy. The 507's are still pulling duty keeping everything warm and moisture free. It will not be long before I fire up the second 507 in the house.

The BMW seems to be doing well. Since we purchased it we have rolled on a little over 3,000 miles. Our initial idea was to sell our Audi and drive the BMW through the winter, however, I believe we will probably put it up for the winter and drive the Audi instead. I don't think the BMW would do well in the winter snow we get.

I am off to bring in some coal since the 507 is calling me to feed it. I hope everyone had a safe and productive weekend. I will try to be on time next Saturday morning.

The snowman.

So...you will be driving it the other 3-4 months of the year?

3-4 months - dream on.

Run flat tires - no spare. Let's first get the report on the $1000 puncture. HS tires, too hard for snow and slush. Don't ask me how I know. These cars are for the rich and famous - we're lucky he talks to us.

Oh come on now, I am not snooty!

The real reason I purchased the car was to get my wife to wear her bikini and get soap covered while washing it. So far, nothing.

It did come with run flat tires and when the car needs new sneakers it will not be getting the run flat. Too damn expensive and are only good for dry/ wet conditions and they do give a harsh ride.

Rob R, I plan to run the car right up to when we get snow, if we get snow this year. Maybe your right, 3-4 months.

Coalnewbie, how do you know? What secret are you hiding? Soooo. . . ....do tell.
