From my location it was said to be 73%. It was overcast but cleared up about 20 minutes before peak. I had three welding shields, two are auto darkening. Apparently the light was not bright enough to trigger them or maybe the batteries were low, I didn't strike an arc to test them. One kept flashing when looking at the sun, the other never darkened at all. The other worked fine, but I don't know what shade it was. Probably #10, but not sure. Several people passed it around, each watched about ten seconds at a time. And that was it. Supposed to happen here again in about 99 years, I'll be patiently waiting. Next time I'll check the batteries ahead of time.

It was cloudy on and off, but we had a good time watching with a Solar Screen and a few pin hole projections.
Gin and tonic would have improved the experience.

It was all I hoped it would be and then some.

Backed truck up to the stone pile to wait for a loader, hop out and look through the welding lens..."Yup, there it is".

Drive about 35 miles to dump site, hop out and look again..."Yup, it's still happening".

Drive back to the plant, hop out..."Yup, ''tis finished".

And the peasants rejoiced.

87% here and the clouds stayed away until 5 minutes after the peak. I took very quick looks thru 7 pairs of sunglasses I put together and it was real dark but I could see it. It was neat looking but the media sure over did it. I bet it was a heck of a lot better at 100%.

About 98.5 in Ringgold, Ga today....looked at it a couple of times including the peak. Just a slight beam of light on the lower right side.....it was nuts down here as thousands poured a few mile north to be in the 100%. They shut down I-75. Hours later when I returned home North of Chattanooga, the divided highway I travel was a jammed mess in the south bound lane.....

My auto darkening helmet flickered at the height of it. In the beginning it darkened nicely. Dennis

I took a look through some eclipse glasses for a few seconds and was mostly underwhelmed, but at least I can say I saw it.

I was about 8 miles from the ground zero line in Missouri. Only the roughly 2-1/2 minutes of totality and its corona impressed me, but that part was spectacular.
