The technology of a pair of binoculars is about to be replaced by a $5 trillion global ship avoidance system paid for by the taxpayer ... It's all part of a plan.

How can this even be possible with a ship that fast and maneuverable?
Are they all asleep on both ships?

My heart goes out to the 10 missing & their families & loved ones. Hope it's not the same as the last where they find their bodies in the flooded areas.

Wait for it ... the Chinese blanketed the area in a giant EMP pulse (or some such nonsense) . The commander of the 7th fleet has been reassigned to pump out sailing dinghies at Bar Harbor, Maine. Freddy is in charge. A fleet wide safety stand down is coming and gin parties are banned. Kims rockets overhead will be ignored.

Yep, let's all stop operating the 7th fleet that will fix it for sure. Port is on the left looking forward and we need to put our left hand down .. got it? OK, all fixed now? So where were we? Where did that bottle of Gordons go?

it does seem too much to be true doesn't it ? this is a US Navy craft outfitted with the top shelf missile defense system operating in a strategically important area where the Navy is on virtual high alert full time and SOME HOW it was run into a tanker 3 X's it's size ?!?franco b wrote:How can this even be possible with a ship that fast and maneuverable?

From the damage it looks like the destroyer passed in front of a ship the size of a 60 story building. That big ship can do very little in turning or stopping fast.
With dead sailors it seems to me to be negligent homicide.
In the old British navy they hung the captain for losing his ship from bad navigation.

Now they just transfer him/her to another church--whoops, sorry--I mean ship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That seems quite dumb and unnecessary. A global shutdown, leaving the world unprotected by the most powerful navy on the planet. I wonder if that decision was made in The Swamp or by a Never Trump person. That's like shutting down every airport and grounding every single airplane after an accident. The "rules of the road" governing sea traffic have been in place a long time and every officer on board should be well schooled in them. Obviously someone on one of the two ships did something wrong. There should be ample evidence to determine who it was. And of course final responsibility falls upon the Captain, even if he isn't on the bridge. His career is over.coalnewbie wrote:https://www.wsj.com/articles/navy-begins-broad-review-of-collisions-with-10-sailors-still-missing-1503329812

On the other hand, I knew a young man who enlisted in the Navy about ten years ago. I was a little surprised when he was accepted, considering his drug, alcohol, and criminal history, but there he was. Imagine my surprise when I found out he was made a navigator! I didn't think he had enough surviving brain cells to navigate the parking lot. But he served honorably and received his discharge. Sadly he passed away last year due to his ongoing health problems. .
