I wonder if he prepped the board somehow. Pre drilling, steaming, or injected something to weaken the fibers at that spot. Still pretty amazing if no photoshop was involved.

I've heard it said that tornadoes have done weird things like embedding a toothpick into a metal pipe without damaging the toothpick (too bad for the pipe though). No idea if stories like this are true, but if they are, velocity and impact angle would seem to have a lot to do with it.
