I played the french horn in band and played the piano at home. During high school weekends spent hunting for 78RPM records and from those who had lived through the, "Jazz Age," It was a golden age of music from Hop Head Blues to Rhapsody in Blue and I discovered the sophisticated arrangements of Paul Whiteman and the raw creativity of those uptown such as Duke Ellington. All of this stuff boiled out of a Gramophone Horn, unapologetic for a 3 minute running time and grooves filled with decades of attic crud. Those saxophone players were down in those grooves waiting to get out there Yes, the 20's was the decade for wild saxophone playing and here are a few examples.
Here is the first 3 minute masterpiece for you.
And one more.
