The AKC does not recognize this breed. Almost none of the worlds breed recognition organizations recognize it. There is a breed recognized as 'Brittany', but none recognized as 'French Brittany'. That said, Brittany is a region in northwest France, and the breed goes back to Brittany France.
About the only differences I could find between an American Brittany (also not a recognized breed) and a French Brittany is that the French permit genes for black and the Americans do not. Some sources also said that American Brittany's are more loving and friendly and intelligent and French Brittany's may not be as loving and friendly and intelligent. May not be as good around children. Etc... But as such, the French variety may make better hunters.
This may just be the America vs. France love/hate relationship being extended to their respective dogs. ???

The reason why the French permit black is that it shows off yellow vests very nicely. Since Louis XVIs demise they have bitten the hand that feeds them many many times and often that revolt is bloody. They keep picking stupid owners but never learn. Watch out as they urinate on national monuments and that is embarrassing. If you want one travel/hotel rates are very reasonable right now. You do not need vaccinations but gas masks are advised. A working knowledge French is helpful but they have largely abandoned Paris and Muslims speak any tongues. You will almost certainly get a discount on your dog if you can read the Quranic script and recite the Quran.
Brittany per se is damned cold and windy this time of the year.
Perhaps It is best to stick with the American breed.

I Rescued a French Brittany. He is just about the friendliest dog I've ever known, high energy but does very well in the confines of the house. They are a bit smaller than the American Brit, my male is 47 pounds. They are more calm than the American Brittany. Also the French allow different colors also the nose may be black. Mine is a tri color. And yes I am told they are better hunters and work closer to their owners. Mine does not hunt and I believe that's why he was given to the Rescue.
I'd like a second French Brittany, but this time a puppy who has stronger hunting instincts.

Binghamton way, we went to the house. I was not impressed or perhaps the puppy we looked at was not our cup of tea.

That seems like a pretty accurate description based on my experience.CapeCoaler wrote: ↑Tue. Dec. 11, 2018 9:00 pmhttps://www.pheasantsforever.org/BlogLanding/Blog ... d=articles
