This new one for me, my Parents are away for the week so I've been dog sitting the two of them at my Grandmother's since Sunday morning. I didn't see either of them take dump the whole time, plenty of grass. These are country dogs and you never see them take a dump because they do it out in the woods, they don't use the grass at the house. Took them up my Aunt's a short distance from here which is in the country. The one made it about 20 feet into the woods, the other one made it about 30.
I don't know if it's nerves, the noise, lack of privacy or whatever.

My previous dogs wouldn't go in the yard either. They just kind of figured it out, i guess. My current dog isn't there yet. Potty trained but doesn't care if he's in the yard.

If they are used to doing it in the woods, that is where they want to go. Kind of a built in training mechanism. Thats my opinion anyway.

As many of you know, we have a sheep farm and a few weeks ago our livestock dealer called us and asked if we wanted an LGD...livestock guard dog. She was a Great Pyrenees, 5 years old, killed two coyotes and two fox, and was trained to guard sheep. The price for her was $50 as the owner was selling out of sheep. We jumped on it.
The thing was, she had never had a barn, so being wary of her being at a new farm, we kept her in the barn for 2 days. When we let her out she immediately took a crap. The poor thing had held it, not wanting to go in the barn.
Now we do not know what to do. This winter we keep the sheep inside the barn and of course she is expected to always be with the sheep. We hope she will learn to crap in the barn along with the sheep, but might have to let her out to do her thing in the field.
What a great dog though, within 24 hours she was doing her job as a LGD well. Now the sheep, they were leery of her for awhile.

My dog looks like the one in the article. We found out that she has been pooping in the exercise room over the summer ... and the next stupid theory I have is .... where do they dig up these clowns and their silly ideas.

lol ... my 2 are the same ... they hate it when I'm keeping an eye on them so they head for cover in the weeds or woods nearby ... my original dog did that as well ... but they're very cute.

My Aussy would never poop on the grass when she was younger. She'd always leave the yard & go into the brush or tall grass. As she aged she finally stopped going the distance and pooped in the yard. This last winter she's got arthritis bad & has decided that the snow was too much so she started pooping on the paved driveway. Spring came & she's now thinking the dew on the grass is a discomfort so it's always in the driveway.....and getting closer to the front door. This last week one time she asked to go out.....and immediately pooped on the top step!! OK....she's 105 in Doggie years.....at least she made it outside. LOL.
