Charlie was my American Eskimo dog. He was the best dog I ever had. The past two years he began to show his age and recently began to decline much more rapidly.
Recent blood work showed issues with his kidneys and liver. He was losing weight and in the past week had trouble standing and walking. He still had appetite for people food but not so much for dry dog food.
After consulting with the veterinarian it was clear that he was in the final days. He may have lived a few more days or even a week or two but with little quality of life. To postpone the inevitable would have been more for me than for him so with the aid of the vet he made the final transition 04/21/2017. I brought him home and buried him in the yard, it was the least I could do for a dear friend.
R.I.P Charlie; 09/25/2002 – 04/21/2017
Age; 14 years 6 months 27 days.
A 4 month old puppy Healthy and energetic at 7 years and 9 months, the prime of his life. At 14 years and 6 months he is showing his age and there is a different look in his eyes.

Cripes,Glen......
Nothing like this is easy, nor should it be..... I firmly believe Charlie was Your Man ! He made You and Yours Better People. He was never "Just a Dog".
I feel that same, old and incurable heaviness in my Heart when I read Your Fabulous Words and saw the Fabulous Pic's of Charlie along His Lifeline.
There's a place in Heaven for Guys like Charlie, and one of the Best Heaven's for Charlie is in Your Heart.....
Charlie's in a Fine Place......
Take Care,My Friends.....

Every time I have to say goodbye I say no more, I can't go through it again. Then it always happens within a few months, usually it's a friendly face and a wagging tail at a pet adoption.

Thank you all for the kind words.
There will be no new dog anytime soon because of my work schedule and the wife’s health issues. We still have two female Eskimos, both 7 years old as well as a cat named Fred.
Eskies have a lot of common personality traits yet everyone is unique. The story I like to tell of Charlie is when we first got him. He was getting a little old for a pet store at the mall and they put him “on sale.” We had been looking for an Eskie and when we saw him we decided he was the one. He was a scared little puppy and cried his first night and was frightened and shy in his new surroundings. I don’t recall if it was the next day or the second day, it was a Sunday afternoon my wife ran off to spend money or something like that and Charlie was still whiney and upset so I took him in bed with me, under the covers next to me and we took a couple hours nap. That nap time absolutely transformed him and he was my dog from that moment on. It was great to tease the wife. If she told him to go out and he didn’t want to he would stand behind me. If I sat on a chair he was under it. I told my wife had she not run off that Sunday afternoon maybe he would have been her dog but running around was more important.
Charlie occupied a very special place in my heart that no other will fill. Maybe when I retire or get a better schedule I want to get another male Eskie and he can find another special place.
Thanks again.
