Our 1 male cat is licking the nut coal in the buckets near our stove
We have seen him do this several times
We can't figure out the WHY ?

Bellyache ?
Some health benefit he has figured out ?

Anyone else ever see this or know anything about it ?

He's trying to get the taste of that cat food out of his mouth.

Yes the cat is "fixed" :what:

He usually enjoys the cat food very much. We also have heard that mineral deficiency is a possibility .

BUT, Which mineral ? :notsure:

He looks a lot like our Fred. I don’t know why he would lick coal but our Fred does a lot of stupid stuff and we just figure that’s Fred being Fred.

Does he lick pee coal too? :)

Is there any possibility of salt being a factor? Or mice having been in the coal?

It may just be the dust he is licking to get his vomit reflex thingy to work??? or maybe your cat is, well, no other way to say it, stupid

Thanks for the laughs everyone!

No pee coal here, other than the occasional pieces mixed in.

He has not been vomiting after licking the coal.

In the winter, some of our drivers would toss a shovel of rock salt on the floor of their trailer before loading at the breaker to help the wet coal from freezing to the floor.

When we processed coal on below zero days, I would throw a handful every now and then on the rice and Barley chute.

Is there a slight white colored film on any of the coal?

Paulie
