Every Christmas Tree seems to have It's life shortened by being traumatized and thrown to the living room floor before It's time to take it down. We keep a squirt bottle of water handy and nail him with it when he seems tempted. But other than that, what do you guys do to keep the cat out of the Christmas Tree? I'm sorry but, taking him out back with a gun is not an option. And the dog ain't much help either......

 I could look at the dog's expression forever! that is priceless! If you don't have little kids shaking the bows I heard a sprinkle of cayenne pepper will keep the animals away.

We used to wire our tree from the trunk to the wall with safety wire. That way when the cat climbed the tree it could only fall towards the wall. Eventually the cat stop climbing tree and was content to drink the water out of the tree holder.

Well,I'm seeing that Moat or a Mine Field is out of question ! The Dog is The Best !! Scratchy the Cat sees that tree as his once a year Ultimate Playground! If it doesn't blow the house up,I'd try fashioning a Christmassy Skirt with the Cayenne Holiday Application first. We ended up making a surround that was tough to climb over(smooth painted wood with an overhang angled down) about 3 ft high one year. Problem-not very Christmassy. Good Luck !!

I drive several screws into the wall and use string to tie the tree to the wall. Got tired of the cat knocking the tree down.

When I was dating my wife, I heard stories of how her father would hang the Christmas tree from the ceiling for just this problem. I thought he was crazy,....until I saw it work. Makes straightening the tree a snap, as well!

Ha! He even used that technique in a rustic cabin with really high beam ceilings and a ginormous tree. Used a small block and tackle to hoist the tree off the floor!
