Does anyone have a coon-hound and are they good dogs? My wife and just put down our 11 yr old yorkie on Easter Sunday. We just resqued 2 dogs 2 months ago 1 is a pure brown Lab an the other is a black Lab with part coon-hound. Both came from a HIGH KILL shelter in West Virgina they are both great dogs but did anyone see a Black Lab with long ears?

They're good dogs if they have enough room to run & owners with much time to spend with them--I'm talking acres & plenty of woods. Both my dogs are Lab crosses & I wouldn't trade either for the world disposition & protection wise.

I've had Red Bone Coon Hounds. They are great loyal dogs, but I wouldn't reccomend them unless you have a lot of time to train and excersize them. They are a hunting dog and want to hunt. My experience usually high energy and need alot of room to run.

So sorry to hear about your Yorkie.
I've had several shelter and rescue dogs, my current buddy is mostly American Foxhound. All I can say is any dog with "hound" in it's name is OK!

When I was in my 20's I had a Blue tick coon hound/ black lab mix. He was without a doubt the best dog I have ever had. Smart, loyal and very protective of his family. As long as he had plenty of exercise there were no problems.

All the dogs I've had were all the best in my opinion, including my current buddy, Marley:

So sorry about the loss of your Yorkie. I know how hard it is to loose a furbaby. I don't know a thing about coon hounds but I wanted to thank you for rescuing. So here's a big THANK YOU to you!

As always thanks for adopting dogs, is it just me or does it seem like most dogs no matter what breed are getting smarter while it's going the opposite with humans.

Our Lab/shepard mix is a rescue dog. He is soo timid, he won't even chase my wife's cats off of his bed!

We've had many dogs over the years from Poodles to Afghans. 7 or 8 years ago we got an Australian shepherd & I'll tell you what... we're hooked. From now on it's nothing but "Aussies" for us. The only bad thing is barking. (And I think that's a wife thing more than a dog thing) They do like to bark every time a car pulls in or someone visits. ( I tell people "You should have come five minutes later...they are always quiet five minutes later") Other than that, they are smart, gentle, obedient, playful and understanding. We have two of them now. As pups they never chewed on anything that wasn't theirs. As adults, they stay in their boundaries without a leash.

My cats do the same thing whenever they catch a rodent in the basement. They'll flip it up in the air, bat it around, etc.. Good entertainment for all of us. :D

But, then they usually leave it on the floor upstairs for me to step on .. sometimes gutted, so it oozes between your toes. OR they get bored and put the thing down, then it takes off and dies under the fridge or washing machine ... or in a wall right next to my bed to stink for 3 weeks ....
