Sorry to hear the news Bob. I had a black lab too, her name was Lucy.. They are a wonderful dog. She was a gentle giant. I remember a couple occasions she got porcupine quills in her face and mouth. I pinned her down, actually straddled her then covered her eyes with one hand while I grabbed a quill with a pair of pliers. She would flinch and yank the quill out as I held onto it. But She never bit me. How impressive is that?? Almost like she knew I was helping her. She was a sweet dog..

Sorry about your loss HB but you did get a gift by not having to pull the trigger yourself. I had to put one down in Feb of 13 and then one in December. It was the right decision in both cases but damn did that ever hurt. Maybe yours and mine are having some fun in Heaven right now but I am sure of one thing, my Quincy has taken over and shown everyone who is boss and just how things are gonna be around here now!!! HEHEHE, it does get easier but there is always that empty spot. Be well, NWB

A week ago Sunday ended 12 yrs of horse ownership. I really enjoyed them but once we bought Leisure Line it was really difficult keeping up with pasture and fences. Our last horse a 30+ yr old mare named Allie my daughters horse developed Pneumonia and was showing signs of Liver failure had to be euthanized. I found her down about an hr after I turned her out and struggling to breath and not moving. Of course a Sunday it is difficult at best to get a hold of a equine vet. So I decided to do the deed. I have to say I have put down many animals including a friends horse. When it is a beloved pet wow many things go through your mind when you know you have to do it. What if I screw up and she suffers more? Lots of factors. Well she went fast and I know she heard and felt nothing. So for now I am keeping the pastures empty. Its kind of sad walking out behind the house now.

Very sorry Flyer, a good friend in Maine had to put one down a few years ago. It was not even his but he said it was the most difficult thing he ever did.

One of my friends once said that he's not getting any more dogs. He said he was "Sick of Burying My Friends" ... I understood that. I dunno,We seem to find something missing in their absence....
