The British burned the place to the ground about 200 years ago. If we ask nicely perhaps they can come over and do it again.

I was there decades ago when they first revitalized it, used to stop there with an old GF and her daughter when heading South on vacation in the late 90's. Can't tell you how it is now but It was nice for day trip back then, not sure if there is enough to do beyond a day. If you do go do not miss the Constellation tour.
Word of warning, you do not want to venture outside of the tourist area. The rough neighborhoods are nearby, if you make one wrong turn you are right in the ghetto. . We stopped there on the fourth of July after a long vacation for the fireworks as we were heading home. Had to park about two blocks away, there was a huge amount less than desirable people walking through that garage at night. Lifting handles on empty cars, harassing people etc. It was one of the few times in my life I was wishing I had a gun, I did not feel safe at all especially with the GF and her daughter being there.

I was there a few years back. We went by bus for the day. They dropped us off and picked us up by the aquarium. That small area is nice, you can take a water taxi over to Fort McHenry. I would say two days would be my limit for Baltimore, I have no clue as to where to stay that is safe and decent.

On my first visit and this was mid 80's that aquarium was state of the art. At the time the dolphin show was more like Sea World type show but the last time I was there it was more educational. In any event certainly something not to miss.
Never did get to Ft. McHenry but if I'm ever there again I will make it a point to go.

I work with a man that moved out of Baltimore a few years ago. Based on what he told me, I never plan to visit.
How about travelling North? The Adirondacks are beautiful this time of year.

I would agree so many other places to visit...
We used to go camping in the park...
Couple miles down a river in a john boat...
It was on of the platform tents a friend owned...

If you were looking for nice place to stay in a tent/camper I'd suggest Assateaague. Late Sept is ideal. Bugs aren't bad, weather is usually perfect and the crowds are gone. Ocean city is not that far away if you are looking for a little excitement.

Further South is Chincoteague, lots of activities like clamming, fishing, boat trips etc. You would rent a house and if it's Sept you should be able to find one for the weekend only.

Both have wild horses and if the wife enjoys something like that there is plenty of them to see.

one last thing Benny today was reminded Baltimore is again by a large margin the #1 bed bug city in the country.where ever you go this may be a problem.if your hung up on baltimore, stay out in one of the close counties. with the influx of many foreigners, many problems have developed.i go nowhere anymore, wife travels to dog shows once a year & stays at good hotels& still will inspect bed& will get staff to provide clean sheets & she will remake bed.paranoid probably but have not had problems. have a good time

The horses are only part of it. The Assateague campsites are right on the beach, alcohol is allowed and last I checked you can even build a fire on the beach. There is also a lot less people because access to it is much more limited.
