You can check to see if you are entitled here:

https://eligibility.equifaxbreachsettlement.com/e ... ligibility

It's for $125 so it's not pocket change.

I'm not aware of the conditions to receive it but I'd assume that is one of them. If you were to sue them on your own it would seem to me you would have to prove the information came from them which may be impossible. I'm not lawyer but I would think your chances of successfully suing them is slim to none.

Only $125 if you already have credit monitoring from what I read.

Equifax is only obligated to give out $31 million. So if (out of 147 million affected) 10 million apply for $125, each will receive $3.10 instead.

I was a victim of the Equifax breach along with numerous others. Just got notice from Esperian my SS # and DOB was found on the dark web. I have already frozen my credit reports and have free credit monitoring provided by Equifax and one other. Besides waiting for someone to steal my identity, what else can be done to proactively fight back? Seems like there should be an easier way to cut um off at the pass rather than sit and wait.

At this point in time they need to stop using SS numbers as any kind of valid identification.

https://law.justia.com/cases/california/court-of- ... /1032.html

Social security numbers ( SS#) are not identifying.

see court case linked .. do further research if needed.

I never give out my SS# for anything other than 1040s. I think for DoD I did too once. Other than that and one bank (which is not really a true requirement - they cannot mandate you give that info to them to open an acct--believe me, you can open an acct but its a hassle - I do the hassle, I like getting hassled).

I have had cops ask me to confirm what they think is my SS # .. they don't have it. LOL

Freezing your credit reports is all I know of, it’s the most important I believe.

My identity has been stolen seven times, used in a crime three times and attempted to be used in a crime two additional times..
