Received an Email saying $40.00 was sent to Macy's for a purchase. A PDF invoice said the recipient was in CA.
Checked my PayPal account and no such transaction was listed.
Forwarded the Email to [email protected] and they replied it was a phishing attempt.
I don't know how the scam works, unless maybe if I clicked a link to dispute the purchase. I did not do that.
A genuine Email from PayPal will always mention your name. This one did not do that.

Thats a typical scam email, they also send from Amazon, UPS, FedEx, etc...about clicking on links for merchandise that can't be delivered or shipping problem or something. A lot of different types of scams that go around.
Another here, was people calling imitating National Grid Electric or Gas and they have to pay their bill immediately with Gift cards? really? or their gas or electric will be shutoff. They never ask for payment over the phone especially with gift cards. that's usually a sign of a scam.

I mentioned this one previously and something to be on the outlook for, if your email box gets flooded with email from legitimate sources where someone has signed you up for forums, newsletters or whatever. Buried in that mess somewhere is going to be a bill for active account you have somewhere like Amazon etc.
The last few months I have gotten a lot of phishing email from banks & credit unions. At first it was just USAA, then it rapidly expanded to other companies. Everyone should learn how to recognize these. The first clue is the address, second is the generic greeting. But they seem to be getting better, so stay alert and do not click on any email links. Oh yea, report them to whatever site they purport to be from.
