coalnewbie wrote:None of them. As your business grows and you establish distribution channels you might diversify and find plywood is not even your main product. Select a more generic name.

Suggestions:

Sunnyspornproducts Inc.
Slimyandshifty Inc.
Overpricedyoubet Inc.

Hmm, am I helping? However the first suggestion is serious.
That one's already taken. :D

How about Production shop services. If your selling to these people you need to be selling them everything they might need, If they need to call you for plywood you may as well sell them hardware(drawer slides, hinges, ect) maybe some finish !

Are you planning on only doing plywood sales for ever ? Or are you open to expanding the business into other products and services in the future if the opportunity (and the money) leads that way ?

Paul,

These wholesale companies like mine that sell to cabinetmakers primarily sell cabinet and furniture grade plywood. The other products such as veneers and hardware constitute less than 10% of sales. This is why "plywood" must be emphasized in the name.

Mark,
I can understand the need for plywood being in the name. Especially in this day and age of web searches. Just wondering if you can choose additional words to the name that would not sound like you only do plywood if you branch out into more ?

Sorta like, "Cabinet Maker's Ply and Supply " covers all of that field, even if someday, you branch out into laminates and counter tops.

Good point there is a company in chillicothe that has a name that ends with coal company and they sell building materials now and not coal.

Hey guys!

Well, I still haven't started this business (money reasons of course) but getting closer.

What about the name Planet Plywood that my business partner is insisting we use?

He thinks that the name is similar enough to Planet Hollywood that the name recognition alone would be priceless.

Thanks for the feedback.

It may also be similar enough to get you sued. I know two people that have been sued by large companies over their company name being similar...even for different types of products.
