Expanding the garden on some clay soil that has 2b mixed in it (the 2b is from the old septic field)
Picked up a bunch of peat moss bales and i want to till in some coal ash with the peat moss.
picked up fertilizer early to beat the price increase and have enough for several years of a backyard garden now.

Question is how much ash can I use?

Working on a strawberry bed today.

No idea about coal ash. I know too much horse manure will burn up a garden cuz I did it.

I doubt you will gain anything by adding it, for the most part coal ash is clay/sand it's not like wood ash that does have some potassium an phosphorus compounds. Clay soils need organic matter more than anything, best thing you could do is start a compost pile and add that. Peat moss will help but it's expensive.

Don't forget about sprinklers https://www.backyardstyle.com/best-lawn-sprinklers/, also very important if you would like to grow smth in your garden, especially if you live in hot areas.

I think I finally found a good use for my ash. I made a big pile and use it for shooting range practice. It stops everything just like sand. Can be wood or coal ash.

I take my ash to the city pile. They still use a cinder spreader here in winter ,saves on salt i guess.
