Got a question for people with a stove...
I have a sheet of metal with 2" of clearance behind it behind the stove. All minimum clearance is being exceeded.
The rest of the wall around and behind the heat shield is just drywall.
I am thinking of going with clipstone, easy to install and all.
The stone requires 1/2 inch plywood behind it in which to attach the "stone"
Does anyone see any issue with doing this? Is the wood behind the clipstone going to be any type of fire hazard? I don't think it will but the wife is nervous. The clipstone itself is at least 1 1/2 thick or more.
Clipstone for wall around heat shield...

Why not just use cement board instead and not try to guess?

Any type of stone is not recommended as a heat shield. If I remember, that is pointed out in the National fire Codes as not acceptable.
The cement board Mac mentioned is acceptable.

I have a 54 x 54 heat shield with a 2 inch stand-off directly behind the stove. The wall that this stand-off is attached is larger. The space, outside of the heat shield is where i plan to install the clipstone, decoratively, not as a heat shield. My wife was concerned about the plywood in which they recommend attaching. I showed many set-ups that have WOOD walls behind the heat shield. She was still concerned, so I told her that I would ask directly on this forum.

Since the heat shield more than meets minimum requirements, then anything beyond it is OK.
