He would lay chicken wire on the straw and weigh it down with bricks. Seemed to work good. We are on the prairie here so winds are fierce and not much windbreak

Is ground water that high in your area?

If you don’t like the concrete riser tuff-tite makes a great plastic riser system and it’s green.
