I have been using coal ash to fill low spots in the yard for years but never used it in a garden. How much ash is ok for a vegetable garden? My soil is red clay and shale and it packs down hard.
When I was a kid dad used to get pickup truck loads of brown screenings and till them into the soil
Figured someone here has experience in using the ash in the garden.
For the past 2 seasons been dumping the ash on my neighbors swampy land behind my sheds then in the summer i cover it with grass clippings and the grass grows.
