So Rob if I'm reading this right I need 292806.4 BTU if my generator was running at full load 3.2 gallons/hr @ 100%. (91,502 x 3.2 gallons/hr).
Than a 500 gallon tank would work as long as it's over zero degrees and at less 30% full

As for running generator, when I added solar photovoltaic I incorporated a large storage battery that switches on first at power loss…and then when battery gets low enough the generator fires up to only re-charge the battery and then cycles off.
Generator always has a flat load and battery handles any highs or lows and generator gets plenty of rest as do I.

Are you using a DC generator?

No need for DC generator. Inverters are bi-directional. AC converted into DC just like the rest of the system switching is all done automatically…fraction of a second!
Solar is optional and the icing on the cake!!

Checking in to see how your project is coming along.
We've used 500 gallon propane tanks for heat in trailers. Above ground, in the elements.
Never had any problem and I'm betting the furnace plus dhw uses same or more than your generator will.
Make sure to use separate high and low pressure regulators.
I think setback is 25ft residential.
Good luck

Generator is backordered and work is getting very slow. So I might be smart to hold off till China lets us have chips again for our cars and trucks.

Now or later, you'll have good info. Hope it works out for you.

Use the extra time to plan out the finer details of your install.
