If Ariens are still as good as they were 12 years ago when I got mine it would be tough to beat. Mines a walk behind Deluxe 30 model. My neighbors all seem to use their smaller John Deere farm tractors (full size, not lawn mowers) with a blower on them and i know 2 of them are using the same tractor and blowers for over 20 years now. It would be easier to use than a walk behind and warm in the cab.

Jack, yeah, time to lay the shovel off! I hate to say it,but an electric start may be a lot better for you than the Ye' Olde' Pull Start!

Whatever you get make sure it has the small triggers on the hand grips to steer with. Controlling the path and turning is far easier. Cub Cadet and Troybuilt are two makes. Ariens, Toro, and Simplicity are the best makes but are more expensive than the MTD brands and may not have as good steering. Electric start is a must also. Also for ease of use don't go too wide. 26 inch is a good compromise width.

Check Craigslist or Facebook for used bargains.

For paved sidewalks a single stage works surprisingly well and cheaper to buy and will clean right down to the paving.. I would recommend Toro. Some of the electric powered battery units have had good revues as well.

There is a bunch 4 sale on CL and FB in the 350-550 range used in your area.

I use my little toro CCR2000 single stage to trim around buildings its over 20 years old.
Light enough to submarine it.

Then the 60 or 72 pto driven. They don't take no chit, 30 inches deep. Blows rocks, ground, yellow and brown snow 40-50 feet.

Not a bad idea but I think I'm a lot like jack and don't mind the winter! I have been to Florida enough to know I don't want to live there. :D

I have a Cub Cadet 945 SWE( not the same quality as the older Cubs but its been ok)45"wide with posi-steer it works good on a our 130' X 18' drive with a large parking area.

Jack, if you have a garden. How about a Troy built horse rototiller with the front mount dozer blade, mounted on the front bumper!??.

I didn't suggest he live there, just winter there. I hate Florida also, but since moving down here and laughing at the natives from TENN!!! that go "south" for the winter, I don't like the cold we are getting either! :o Winter is hard on older people, it sucks the life out of them. Not to mention falling.... dark or should I say long dark days, cold, rainy and snow. Winter is depressing. No wonder guys get an antique coal burner and obsess over it......
Carry on crew, glad to tweak the conversation and liven it up a bit. Been pretty boring in here. lol....

I never realized people from TN go south for the winter, LOL I plan on trying at least one winter in the south when Im older, probably southern CO or northern NM. Not as cold anyway. We'll see. Too many people anywhere a person goes anymore.
