I had one of the single stage TORO ones. sometimes we get way more than the little ones can handle, upgraded to an older MTD/yardmachine 10HP, 26", briggs motor, with electric start, usually first pull starts right up. 6 forward/2 reverse speeds. Found it on craigslist locally. works great, do all my neighbors too.

- Other Heating: Wishing it was cold enough for coal here....not really
[Kevin and KlookUntil Late december i cracked 4 ton of coal .Florida Hell No .Gotta stay in shape .Jack/quote]
I can appreciate the staying in shape mantra, but come on maaaan.....(Joe from Scranton)
In reality, I found when I moved at only 52 that the warmth is wonderful. My friends that moved to Fla. found the same thing. You just feel better. Cold makes you tighten up and stiff. It may be mental, but I am not liking the cold we get here.....seems colder every winter. 34* right now and I don't want to go out the door.
Watch yourself on the ice and don't overdo the shoveling.

I'll bet if you had a choice, a shovel or any size snowblower. Which would you use the most?

Jack--elec. start is a must as is self drive!!!!!!!!!! I had a 30 yr old John Deere blower that had an elec. start & would move any type of snow--used it to cut a path down to the barn. I think it had a 28" cut.

I've had good service with a MTD/ Yard Machine ( I think) I bought back in the Winter of '04-05. About $800. back then, Wally World. 8 hp Tecumseh, dual stage. I had to put on a cheap Chinese carburetor a few years ago that worked pretty well and had an adjustable main jet to boot. It has plug in electric start that works well. I've had to replace broken recoil starters a couple times. It's been fine for snow up to a foot or a bit more. On stuff like this last 2 footer it's not in that league. Bigger and more motor needed. Nothing works for slush. If I had chains on it that would be somewhat of a help. For something with no air cleaner, it still seems to have good compression and I've used the crap out of it. No idea what the quality is now and MTD was never considered great. I guess Tecumseh is long gone now.
