I have bad dimmer switch and my Uncle had one laying around. probelm is the one I had was just two wires, both black. This one as three as it's 3 way switch. Two red and one black.
Is safe to assume I can wire both red to same wire and black to it's own wire?

No! Power to the switch on the black and use one red. Wire nut off the other red wire
