Grill / Smoker Combo?
I was wondering if there is a unit that can be used for both smoking and grilling? I was thinking the WSM would be able to do both? The unit will probably be used more as a grill than a smoker. Looking for the best of both worlds.

You can use the WSM as a grill, but it is nothing like cooking on a traditional Weber. The distance from the fire to the top great is pretty large.
I have tried it and now run a Weber charcoal grill right next to my smokers. (I have a WSM and a Pit Barrell).

I use the Oklahoma joe offset smoker with cowboy charcoal. It's back to the basics but I can keep good temps with it. Smoked a roast in 20 degree windy weather 2 weeks ago

Traeger would be a better choice. I love my WSM but it is no grill, even with some mods I have made. Right now my Home Depot is discounting Traegers.

I made
A rocket grill using brake drums off my old 95 dodge Cummins. I used a 3.5 inch riser tube which is kind of small for a rocket stove. I was able to cook slow enough to leave a smoke ring on meats. Worked pretty good.

My Camp Chef pellet smoker will grill too. Has a slide baffle that you move and it opens up the fire to the grille. Your prime cook area ends up being kind of small in the center of the grille, but it works.

I agree Rob. Have used a traditional 21" Weber kettle grill For all types of grilling & smoking for many years now. It's hard to beat for less than $200.00. Plus you get the charcoal & wood smoke flavors combined. Even bring it camping with us now & can't tell ya how many times the neighbors at the camp were surprised to see a 14 lb turkey under the lid. As long as not cooking for a crowd, this grill is all you need.Rob R. wrote: ↑Sat. Jan. 04, 2020 8:21 pmYou can use the WSM as a grill, but it is nothing like cooking on a traditional Weber. Holy Smokes, Paulie!!
I see a wood stove on one end. LOL! Looks like it has a single lever air control unless I’m mistaken. Removable cool plates directly over the fire, a grilling station big enough for an entire hog it looks like, and plenty of room for bacon or jercky on the far end. Wow!!!!! I love it...cough...them (2). Did I say ...Wowww!!! Very nice.
