Nice generator Don. I love finding older stuff that has never been used!
Thanks!

I removed the straps and cracked open the transfer switch lid.

This is one seriously complicated transfer switch! It looks like this thing is set up to provide the user with all kinds of options. I see what looks like 6 timers, I can't imagine why you would need that many!

And, Yes! there is an hour meter! Looks like it was run for 0.5 hours. That's as new as it gets. Probably factory test run time.

The inside is all spank'in clean and brand new looking. One of the cables has some dry rot probably caused by that zip tie cutting into it. Other than that, it's perfect.

Did some research for you. Yes, it was a traffic generator, Virginia Beach used to use them. Set and forget. Endless combinations of timings for traffic signal changes. I hope you find a use for it.

Thanks CN!

Hummm,,, My town is too small to have a traffic light. Well, I'm sure I can figure out how to make it power my house.

We could use at least one good traffic light .. What if all 4 people used the road at one time.

Well, It's been over 3 years but on Saturday this project became a High Priority.

The wind knocked the power out here on Saturday morning. That killed all my other plans so I decided to try to get this thing fired up!
IMG_0002.JPG
.JPG | 341.1KB | IMG_0002.JPG
I pulled the steel fuel tank and the 6 volt batteries. Put in a plastic 5 gallon tank and a car battery.
IMG_0001.JPG
.JPG | 356.1KB | IMG_0001.JPG
I cranked it for a while. The oil pressure came up plenty high.
IMG_0004.JPG
.JPG | 347KB | IMG_0004.JPG
Then I cracked these screws that are on top of the injectors. I think there bleed screws???
IMG_0010.JPG
.JPG | 399.9KB | IMG_0010.JPG
IMG_0011.JPG
.JPG | 359.3KB | IMG_0011.JPG
It was actually trying to start when I noticed a lot of fuel leaking! :o
Turned out to be a bad fuel line on the pressure side.
IMG_0005.JPG
.JPG | 322.9KB | IMG_0005.JPG
That killed our plans of getting it started on Saturday.
Luckily the power came back on Saturday evening.

Today after work I tried removing that fuel line. It turned out to be a pain in the BUTT! One side the fitting broke off in the housing.
IMG_000522.JPG
.JPG | 352.3KB | IMG_000522.JPG
I chucked it up in the vise, but I couldn't find my Easy Outs.

.JPG | 395.5KB | IMG_000622.JPG
IMG_000722.JPG
.JPG | 365.6KB | IMG_000722.JPG
The other problem I have is, I dropped the regulator. When it fell it pulled the 4 wires off of the terminal block. The wires aren't marked so I get to figure out where the go. :what:

.JPG | 308.8KB | IMG_0009.JPG
IMG_0010 (2).JPG
.JPG | 299.4KB | IMG_0010 (2).JPG
Hopefully this turns out to be an easy project!

I ordered fuel filters. I still have to order air and oil filters.
IMG_0008 (2).JPG
.JPG | 337.6KB | IMG_0008 (2).JPG
Then I get to figure out how to connect it to the house!

Think you may be up against a good challenge there.
Without a neutral conductor you’ll not have 120volt from that generator.
But there are ways…

How did you determine no neutral ? What did I miss?

in the house I grew up in, the gen was in the basement, with exhust to outside through window. never had a problem. proably not to code by today, but back in the
1930's was how it was done. always worked.

Two Listers CS/6s stand at the ready. Run on anything with a BTU. Soy oil is my favorite from the local Jap restaurant. Lousy food but good oil.
I have a CS6 as well. Neat old engines. I have startomatic flywheels though.

McGiever has a sharp eye! He probably noticed how it is connected to my welding plug. The cable going out of the generator has ground, both side of the 240V but no neutral. It's a 12 wire generator head so if anybody knows how to get a neutral out of this, let me know.

I think I figured out how to reconnect the regulator. Next will be fixing the fuel system, changing the oil and air filters. Then we should be able to fire it up!

I saw it has the option for 240 single PH, I would think that would get you 120 so there must be a neutral somewhere.

Nope!
Why would you say there must be a neutral there somewhere?
Not everything 240 vac single phase requires any neutral.
It is a 240vac split-phase that has/uses a center-tapped neutral to get 120vac out.

Isn’t that what I said in less words.

Don, With this you'd need to de-rate the output Kw to 2/3rds...because of only using half of the total windings, so 6kW would be then now be 4kW loaded.
12-lead_1.png
.PNG | 149.3KB | 12-lead_1.png
But..using this Zig-Zag and all the leads/windings NO de-rateing!!
