Zero degrees out all day with the wind blowing hard, stove has been cranked up pretty high. After living here six winters, Henry just jumped up on top of the stove. He didn't stay long. I had just filled the hopper 15 minutes ago, so the lid was cooler than usual with all that fresh coal under it, 295 degrees. He seems to be walking fine, favoring one front paw a bit. We will have to watch for swelling over the next day or two.

That is 1 of the things I worried about b4 firing my coal stove for the first time in 2014.Have had no issues, all the cats love the heat & take turns lounging nearby on the concrete. Hopefully your cat will be fine.
If you have liquid vitamin E,rub that on his paws,it will help heal & if he licks it off,it won't hurt him but will help his immune system. Keep applying as needed to keep the paw moist. if it drys & cracks it will bother him much more.

My cat also learned this lesson. He always stays about 5 ft min. from the entire stove now.
