Maybe moving won't be that bad after all. If needed you can always install a coal boiler & a new dishwasher at the new place . :) We know that you can do either install. :)

The install part I can handle, buying the appliances a second time is something I would rather avoid.

So far I am very impressed with this GE dishwasher. The dishes come out clean and DRY.

Damn, that's a real nice house there! Surprised it's been on the market this long. Sucky economy, I figure. I've had a hard time selling stuff since '09, but the past couple years have been the worst ever.

Well the old saying about real estate is location, location, location. Rob your house and property look very nice. It would sell here and probably for well over 300k. Shame you can't move it.

I made the mistake of installing a couple of gate valves here, even with a water softener minerals still build up on the innards, then the gate gets stuck in the grooves and as you turn the handle back and forth trying to free it the shafts shears off inside the valve.
Ball valves only now, even they get stuck if left alone for too long.

Have you ever tested your water downstream of the softener? I replaced my water softener a few years after I moved into this house and was shocked at the difference in the water afterwards. Obviously the old unit was barely working. Hard to say how long it was like that, but I am sure it didn't help the dishwasher. After I got the water softener replaced I had to run a bunch of vinegar in the dishwasher to get the minerals out of it.

Yes I have. The softener is working correctly. I installed it new in 2006.

I had issues a few years ago with the unit not working correctly, the water here is very hard and has a high iron content. The iron had encapsulated the resin beads. I add Iron Out or a similar compound now liberally between every bag of salt I dump in. I also switched to salt with iron-removing additives. No scale build up in any of the appliances or sinks going on. The loss of soft water occurred slowly, that may have been when the build up occurred in the valves.

I lived here for years before I was able to afford the water softener, everything clogged up with lime scale, faucets, the toilet barely flushed because the holes under the rim were all clogged up, forget about washing the car, dry it with a clean towel and the towel left a white smear behind.

Don't see how dishwasher failed.. looks like kitchen was never used!!!

ha! You should see it now! Dam kids.

With all of us being home for the holidays, that new dishwasher has done two loads per day since it was powered up.

I hope it is 1 year like the rest of my GE stuff.

One thing I have already noticed - the dishwasher came with two pouches of Cascade detergent. I used them up, and was surprised at the spots/film left on the stainless interior. Switched back to our trusty "Finish" brand tablets, and everything looks brand new once again.

Update. I ended up having quite a war with this dishwasher for the first month or so that we owned it.

The "Finish" tablets worked good for about a week, then the white film returned. I tried several other brands of detergent, more detergent, less, more rise aid, but the white film persisted. A few oz. of vinegar would clean things up nicely, but that seemed like a poor solution. I had our water tested, and that was not an issue. Finally, I decided to try some "all natural" detergent made by Seventh Generation. That was in January...and the dishwasher has been working perfectly ever since. We use 1/2 tablespoon of detergent per load, and everything comes out spotless.

Something else I have noticed is a change in our electric bill. For the last 9 months or so we have used 14% less electric than the two years prior. No other changes in appliances or routine. Not sure if the dishwasher is responsible for the change, but I'll take it either way.
