Per Cub Cadet's website, they introduced the first shaft drive lawn tractor in 1994 (XT3 series).
What? They were making shaft drives since 1963.

I thought so too, but they clearly write Lawn Tractor 1994.

OK, I see the confusion. Their garden tractor was shaft drive in 1963, the shaft drive lawn tractor was 1994.

Gadzooks! "Electronic power steering?"

1963. cub cadet 70 and 100. the cub cadet original (1960 to 1963) had a belt going from the engine to the clutch/drive shaft. in International harvester owned cub cadet until the 80's when they sold to mtd.

What was old is new again. My zero turn is belt drive. 9 years on the original belt, and it still looks like new.

I have a Cub Cadet original built in March 1961. 4 digit serial number. Pretty early one, has the high/low range and and a driveshaft. 38” mower and a Danco 30” snowblower.
