Jumping in late here. I have been flirting with the idea of solar. I just cant justify the cost at the moment. Currently Im right around $0.128/kw. with the cost of the install there is currently no return on the investment, much like installing new windows. Warranties are only as good as the company that backs them. What happens to the 25yr warranty if "XYZ Solar" dissolves in the next 10years? Do they have a warranty escrow account that stays with you?
Lease would seem to make the most sense in my case, but still cant justify the need.

I'm waiting for the windmill made out of solar panels. All joking aside, i also thought "what if the company goes under". There is a house up here that was just sold and the new owner put up solar panels. I think he's retired now and has some extra spending money so figured why not. As for the taxes, no way should they be raising your taxes because you are trying to save money.

That is crazy pricing. But I suppose in a couple years it will be normal. Crazy times.

One can switch providers ... brings down generation rate to about 16 cents v. 24 cents...
And the general assembly members have been spouting off alot of garbage about the high rates.
Never once saying what is the reason : the lack of "approved generators (and CL&P are not generators but are just distributors)" that use coal fuel to generate which is cheaper. Paying sky high rates due to useless "green" crap.
CL&P does contract out with several suppliers and then bills you for their rates (CL&P makes no money on generation) if you don't choose one. CL&P will not tell you who they buy from in CT. They do tell Mass. customers who they buy from. CL&P contracts out for 6 mos. at a crack.
Most generators rely heavily on natural gas ... hence the rate spikes. Its like 35% gas, 25% nuke, rest solar, wind, etc.
