Renewables are getting closer in price to FF but they are not there yet. Im not against wind and solar but if they are cheaper as some claim, i dont see it in the generation offers. Still anywhere from 1c to 5 c higher per KWH.davidmcbeth3 wrote: ↑Mon. Apr. 03, 2023 1:06 pmIf your state has PV or wind programs, go see the paperwork. Then call folks who participated and learn their energy creation. I've done this, most are happy to talk about how good or poor their purchase was.

It all goes to projected return on investment (ROI). I have yet to see any PV system meet a 5 yr ROI and most I have examined resulted in a 15 yr ROI which is close to the life-span of the system, so why bother.
Wind requires avg. wind speed of 15 MPH. You can see the avg wind speed online via google search for your area. Mine is at 10-12 MPH from my recollection; review of such installed systems not done as I assume they are not going to have positive ROIs + none are around my area to review.

I was contemplating solar collectors but found them to be an expensive option.Instead i took about the same amount of money to start then added some later and bought my power companies stock and made enough buying and selling it in 4 weeks to pay over 2 years worth of electric bills at $150 a month. Needless to say im no longer considering solar panels. My ROI was less than a month.davidmcbeth3 wrote: ↑Wed. Apr. 05, 2023 5:18 pmIt all goes to projected return on investment (ROI). Yup. BB still doesn't get that no matter what he says about efficiency of EV's there isn't enough power in the grid for widespread use..... even at night.
Reminds me of the AOC joke about her saying we should send astronauts to explore the Sun. When told they would burn up, she said then just go at night.

Cars in the 60s got 30-35 MPG ... before all the EPA regulations that were not needed.BigBarney wrote: ↑Mon. Sep. 04, 2023 2:03 pmWe need facts... Not opinion... Everyone has opinions but not the facts...

Electric vehicles have efficiency losses as well, even from the outlet to the car. In winter months the efficiency just might be equal .. EV v. ICE .
Why should I be fixated about "efficiency" ... the most efficient way to heat a house is through electricity...but it cost 5x as much as coal ?
Electricity is free from the sun,,, All you have to do is harvest it.. no cost for fuel...
Electric cars can get 140 mpge which no fossil powered car can ever match...
Look at the carnot cycle ~25% efficient... Electric motors over 90%...
Heat pumps at 300% efficiency and $ 0.14 electric cost/100,000btu = $1368.00
Coal at $300.00 ton = $1500.00 cost per 100,000 , so even at $300 too costly...
There are new CO2 heat pumps coming on at~500% efficiency...$821.00 per...
Go step further with off peak at $0.06 and then cost is $321.00...

Those are fake #s I hate to tell you. Only applies if kwh cost is low.
My area costs....
33 kwh/100 miles = 33 kwh * $ 0.35 / khw = $11.6 $/100 mi
Car gets 35 mpg , at $4.25/gal -- 100 mi = 100mi/35 mpg * $4.25/gal = $12.11 to go 100 mi
MPGe for EV = 37
The Gen 2 volt ? Gets 50 mpg gas @ $3.50/gal ... gas cost for 100 mi = $7
Blowing EV costs away
Any 50 mpg car in my area has cheaper fuel costs.
They actually started showing the data on stickers of cars now .. not that people can do math. And I have not gotten into efficiency ... which is basically included in the numbers that are important...$/miles fuel cost
Only an idiot would buy an all electric car in places with high electricity costs and decent gas prices.
Here are the FACTS...
So $3.36 per 100 miles at $0.14 per Kwh....On the Chevy Bolt...Regular rate...
Then the cost per mile of fuel.... $0.0336 per mile...
At $0.06 per Kwh ... $0.0144 per mile ...$1.44 per 100 miles...Off peak rate...
Even at 50 mpg at $4.25 is $0.085 per mile... Still real high...
Still 250% more...Why is gas for the one car $3.50????

Overall rate: bend over and touch your toes ! lol $0.25/kwh
Likely $100/mo for both Volts ..total est. mind you
I would recommend BB measure 100 miles of run time with Dr. Killowatt and see true kwh per 100 miles ... be interested...my Volts us 33 , determined via measurement that way which includes losses from charging.
The DATA you have is specifically noted as only being based on miles driven and nothing else...likely assumes you are a hyper-mileage guy. Why are you emailing any personal info to folks anyways...I recommend you discontinue this.
