The future of package delivery.... New Amazon Van for last step delivery...

They need 100,000's of these to service the market....

Low Cost of Ownership will be a big advantage for Amazon...

You see BB we are not all negative on EVs. In the city with constant stop and start it will work well and reduce emissions a lot. However for the other 98% not so well.

Yeah, cheers for that 2 %.

Here in CNY with all the hills and twisty roads they will use all their charge just getting to their first delivery stop and back to their charge station. And in winter they may not make it that far. :o

But not to worry,... we have lots of ICE farm tractors to haul them to an electrical outlet.

Georgia gave them a 1.5 billion dollar grant, note that is grant. Subsidies are usually tax breaks, in this case they are writing checks. There is alos some other significant incentive like property taxes etc.

They are estimating 7500 jobs at average of $56K. Georgia has income tax rate of 5.75%. <Whips out calculator>:

1500000000 / ( (56000 * .0575) * 7500 ) = 62 years to recover the grant in employee income tax.

To me it seems like the easiest application for electric transportation would be a train. The weight and space of the battery would be much less of a concern, and the locomotives have electric drivetrain already - just powered by diesel generators instead of batteries. When someone sees a fully electric train with solar panels on the boxcars let me know.

Yup, tax credits.

And the Senate just extended the EV tax credits - $7500.00 for new and $4000.00 for a used one. Yet, BB wanted a level playing field in another thread, as if EVs were getting cheated.

I am not for tax credits I am for a rebate at the point of sale which is a lot

simpler and doesn't involve more paperwork.

To better equalize the road use payments ALL cars should pay a road use

tax on the number of miles driven.

Also you should pay a carbon tax on the emissions of the vehicle no matter

what energy source you use.

Rebate from whom ? If it's from the gov then it's still being done with our taxes.

Your "equalize" idea is actually unequal.

There is a reason why the road tax is charged on fuel and not miles. Lighter vehicles use less gas and therefore cause less road wear.

If only charging by miles, the heavier cars (like EVs) would not be paying their fair share of the cost of upkeep of the roads.

And as far as paying a carbon tax, the EV owners would scream if they had to pay their fair share of the emissions and their impact on the environment caused by EV building and use.

It's not a tax credit. Where you hear subsidy it's almost always a tax incentive that allows a company to keep a greater portion of the money they earn. They were given a grant which is significantly different, a 1.5 billion check paid for directly by GA taxpayers.

FYI Amazon is a major stakeholder in this company, not only will the vehicles they buy be lower cost on the taxpayer dime......on the other end they will be profiting by selling vehicles to themselves.

Rivian has deep pockets and will be profitable when production can be increased.

Amazon is hot for these van with their $ 10,000+ savings on fuel ,and for 100,000

trucks $10,000,000,000 in fuel savings per year, and low maintenance cost ,will be

a drop to the profit line.

Gm has their Brightdrop vans that also are a competitor.

All of these vans will be in huge fleet demand due to big advantage over traditional

fueled vehicles.

The playing field will never be level as long as they give american taxpayer money to our foreign
competition in any form at all. Who funds their competition.Only the idiots in the US congress.
