It's no contest between the 2 car companies... Toyota is in the dumper..

Per their figures you can see they are way back...

https://www.toyota.com/compare/?srchid=SEM:700000 ... lsrc=aw.ds

Now see Tesla figures from the EPA...

https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymake/Tesla2019.shtml

There is no contest .. Game over for legacy ICE auto...

When the fuel cost $4.00 gallon for gasoline and electric is $0.135 KWhr the Prius costs

$0.069 per mile @ 58mpg and the Tesla at 27 KWhr /100 miles = $3.65/100 miles.

So the Prius = $6.90 / 100 miles and the Tesla M3 at $3.65 / 100 miles.

Prius costs for only fuel are ~twice as expensive as a M3 Tesla .

Which would you rather drive???

$3.35 per 100 miles... So someone driving 1500 miles a month would save $50.25/month but only IF they could get electric that cheap. How much more will the monthly payment on the Tesla be over the Toyota? Game over, Toyota wins.

Wait until NG prices somewhat stabalize at some higher price and see what that does to electric costs in many areas. The Tesla will cost more to drive than the Toyota.

Don't forget to add in the higher initial cost of an EV verses an ICE.

Then there is talk of taxing EVs to pay their fair share of what the gasoline taxes pay toward road maintenance.

Plus the cost of a home charging station, and if you are using the EV for more than commuting, you will also need to allow for the cost of some high speed charges.

The gasoline tax structure needs to change. Some states have started adding a registration fee on EV's, but at some point we will see a mileage tax.

Yup here's some of those States. And with tax money to be had, you can bet other Sates will catch on quickly. Plus, EV's won't be a savings once they start paying their fair share for road use milage.

the grid can't handle electric cars.
tesla does not have toyota quality.
i doubt we will be seeing 36 year old teslas running. I use my 86 toyota pickup a few times a week.

The grid lacking capacity isn't the only problem the pro- EV types keep leaving out. Most homes don't have the electrical capacity for anything other than a slow charger.
